Drawn after finishing Dean Koontz's Watchers for the first time. For those who haven't read it, Watchers is a superb thriller - the first Koontz book I've read - and its suspense was enough to make me finish the thing in almost one sitting: Saturday evening to Sunday morning. I went to bed at 6:31 AM with bloodshot eyes.
These are a couple concepts for how I see The Outsider, a hybrid monster created from recombinant DNA research and experimentation. I don't want to give any spoilers, but... I suppose posting this is sort of like a spoiler itself, for anyone interested in reading the book. Of course, The Outsider's appearance is really subject to the reader's imagination and how he or she envisions Koontz's details. I am quite fond of the black, scribbly version at the bottom of the page; I'd like to draw it again on a larger piece of paper.
Baboons are awesome. The profile is that of a hamadryas baboon; the skull is of a male chacma baboon. Look at them TEETH!
Love it! Mine invisioning of it made it mave thicker legs and for some reason a tail that went down to its knees hah But god I loved the Outsider, so sad "Tear out your eyes" You want to tear out my eyes? "Tear out everyones eyes" Why? "So cant see me" Why dont you want to be seen? "Ugly" You think your ugly? "Much Ugly"
Ah that part is stuck in my head! I finished the book and still I remember that and at the end "Kill dog, kill dog" How I wish I could hold The Outsider and tell him I would care for him
Aww, thanks! The Outsider is my FAVORITE monster of all the books I've read and movies I've seen. I'd considered giving it a tail at one point as well. Makes me want to go back and try some different designs.
Oh I know, the poor thing is so vicious, yet eerily sympathetic. I'm a sucker for sympathetic monsters. <3
Yes, I haven't been able to get my hands on too many Koontz books, but I've read a couple others. Nothing quite compares to watchers though.
Would you mind if I used some of your Outsider concepts in some of my own pieces, giving you credit of course? I've been looking for a good representation of The Outsider for a long time, but the best I can come up with are the Balverines from "Fable" and this couldn't be a better representation. If not, I completely understand. If yes, and it turns out you really hate what I've done with it, I will remove it.
Watchers is definitely hard to beat. I think I've read around eighteen or so of Koontz's novels, but I have maybe eleven or twelve more (that I own) which I haven't read yet. I need to get cracking!
If the pieces are solely for your own, personal purpose, then please go ahead. If you were to use them in, say, a school project (not that that's what you implied), I would decline.
